My grandfather drives a brand new GMC Envoy and my mother drives a brand new Toyota 4 Runner so I know both SUVs pretty well. I can tell you that the Toyota has the GMC beat in overall quality, capability, durability, value, and resale value. Don't get me wrong, the Envoy has a very smooth ride and can be luxurious with the Denali package, but if you're someone who trades their vehicle after a few years, you'll be extremely disappointed with how little you will be able to get for the GMC. Toyotas (edging out honda in most tests) have the highest resale value of any vehicle on the road today. They are simply bullet proof and pretty easy to work on because almost every Toyota Truck or SUV is built right here in the States. If you aren't getting the Envoy Denali, then you are limited to the V6, whereas you can get the available V8 on any model of the 4 Runner. The Toyota is a perfect mix of class and brawn and can be had for about the same price as the GMC (depending on the options on both) but will fetch about 10 grand more as a trade-in.

I'd go with the Toyota. I've never had a 4Runner, but I had a Camry and currently drive a Corolla and they are great cars that will run forever and a day if you treat them right.

Hands down get the 4-Runner. I have owned 3 of them. A 1986, 1996 and I just got my 2006 with the v-6. The first 2 went over 125000 miles with 0 problems. Check out consumers reports magazine, they will back up what I say. And at trade in time you will be $ ahead also.
