I expected 16-18 mpg's. I know it is a jeep and you don't buy one for the fuel mileage, but 13-14 mpg on the highway is ridiculous!! My 1997 Ford Explorer with V8 All-Wheel Drive gets 14-16 mpg, and the 1998 Jeep Cherokee was getting 17-18mpg when It was wrecked. The dealer says they checked everything, but are not able to give me an answer other than that is normal. I have read a number of posts here and elsewhere and haven't found any with similar fuel mileage. I am wondering what can be checked, or did I just get a lemon?

There quite possibly could be something wrong with your air/fuel mixture and it would be difficult to detect if it was a computer problem. Having the dealer re-flash your PCM could fix it. Also, check for proper tire inflation and that your air filter is clean. Make sure your oil is clean as well. Other than that, if everything has been checked you may have some other problem with a sending unit or a clogged up or malfunctioning sensor and don't forget that a lot of your mileage depends on your driving style and how high you have your RPM's on the highway. Have you checked the air filter? Also doesn't the MPG depend on the conditions in which you are driving, such as hills & how fast you are driving? Remember the MPG listed is for optimum driving conditions, NOT actually driving situations.I have a 1993 BMW 320i sedan. can i use a universal Catalytic Converter?

The Government has revised the 2007 fuel economy ratings downward . in some cases more than 4mpg. the new ratings take into account that you don't drive on flat roads with no wind. So don't feel bad , The ratings are optimistic on pre 2007 modelsjeep are recalling there product back for a catalytic converters

I could be off base with this but it might be worth getting checked out. My 2003 Chevy Venture's fuel guage went nuts a couple of days ago. I stopped at a dealer and they said it was the sender had gone bad. When I got home I found on the net a huge set of problems concerning GM fuel sending units. The root cause is that the sender is reacting badly to aftermarket fuel additives and to ethanol. If you use E85 your milage might be right on, only your guage might be giving you faulty readings.Euro / Altezza Style Tail Lights for 81 Camaro??
The only way to know for sure is to fill the tank and drive it till you run out of gas (have a gas can ready to get you to the station). If you go 5 or 10 miles after the needle drops below E your guage is good. If you go 50 to 100 miles you'll need a new sender.

The cold weather makes cars use more gas too. So when it warms up it should get better. My car right now is only getting 22 because of the cold.

Use your cruise control on the hwy, and dont take off in a flash. Nothing uses up gas like slamming on it all the time.
