its your transmission, its older and its not smooth anymore, usually its an issue, but if it conerns you have a mechanic look at it.It could be the "little jerk" driving the car...oh wait, it's a Ford!! That explains it either way.
If your motor is rev'ing kinda high, you might need an adjustment. The jerk sounds like hard shifting.

if you don't like that, go for lower (higher numerically) ring and pinion set. I'd suggest 3:60 to 3:70.
