It sounds like you have some electrical problems when you tap on the starter you are making the armature turn a little moving it off a dead spot. Your started is most likely shot change it out and it will crank over just fine. You may have running problems due to a burned out voltage regulator in the alternator most likely from trying to crank the starter on the dead spot change the alternator out and you should be fine go to your local auto parts store with the suspected bad parts and have them check them out for you Napa is a good place to go they will exchange the old parts for some remanufactured parts that will help keep the cost down both repairs are easy to do if you go to the library you can borrow a repair manual for your jeep that will tell you exactly how to do itAlfa romeo fuel gauge jammed,how do you fix it?

If you don't change out the Solenoid on the starter it will eventually quit for good no matter how many times you tap on it.What you can do is remove the starter and the solenoid and clean the connector that is arced and that will make it run fine for about another two years, but eventually you will need to replace Solenoid or starter, it's best to replace the entire starter.
To better explain what I am saying here is that on top of your starter is a Solenoid. Some cars have external Solenoid and some models have them on the starter okay!!
So remove the starter and on top of the starter unscrew the Solenoid loose and pull it out and clean with sandpaper where it makes contact when engaged. It arc es and carbon builds up causing it to corrode and eventually it won't make good contact just like a washing machine dial turns and makes contact for each cycle.
Clean it really good until you see a shiny copper look again.
Then put it back together and you will get more years out of that starter.
Or just fork out the money and buy another one.
Save $$$ clean it!!

If it is running and stalling that is a sign of a clogged fuel filter or a bad fuel pump is you have a internal fuel pump in the tank. I'm not in the mood to check the books right now for your Model, but it aslo can be other things as well.

If it is I will rule out compression problems and take a good guess it is a fuel problem. If you have injectors...put some injecter cleaner in the tank and run that.

You might want to check the web for Dodge recalls.sounds like it has more than one problem . first the starter is bad .and go the cheapest for the next problem start off with the fuel filter first and if it dose the same stalling problem then have the fuel pump changed.. good luck..
