Mini bike key problems?

hi,

i have an old mini bike, i cant find the key of it so i hotwired it, once i got it started and got it to run very strong but after that once i put it back together it didnt start up again, i took it apart again, and took out the battery, the battery was shot, so i used a spare lawn mower battery, i recharged the lawn mower battery, now the honk and the lights are working, but when ever i try to start it up it trys to start but it just makes a vmmmm noise, what do i have wrong, please help me get this old bike to run
