I have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo and the oil pressure is almost always at 80psi. Is that normal.?

Question:
I just changed my oil and filter, it was running around 50psi i used 10w30 non senthetic and i put a Fram tough guard filter "the little orange one with the grip" would the smaller filter be the cause of the high psi, and is this normal. Thanks, Aaron

F250 changing from 2 wheel drive to 4x4?

if the oil was thinner in viscosity before you changed it would increase a little bit. it also increases when you are driving. the normal psi is between 60 and 80 at operating temp. the smaller filter shouldnt make a difference as long as its the correct application. also try replacing the oil pressure regulato which is located right next to the filter base. its like 25 dollars and they are notorious for breaking.

It is common for the pressure to run high like that, especially when the engine is cold. Higher pressure is not necessarily a bad thing. Very low oil pressure is the bad one. That is indicative of worn engine parts. I would not worry about it. I work in a Jeep dealership service department

If you are really concerned, try another oil filter. Fram filters are known to have quality control problems - the filter could be a bad one, if it is the correct application.
