Question:
I have a problem with a friend's 1984 Toyota Celica. When she stops the car at a stop light and it sits at idle for a little while, sometimes it will start sporadically lunging between 500 and 900 RPMs. Sometimes it will just die. When she takes off, it will still continue to lunge until the car gets up to about 2000 RPMs at which point the lunging will stop even if she goes back to idle. This does not happen at every stop, just about 1/3 to 1/2 of the time. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Sounds like a carburetor float is not shutting down the fuel when the bowl is full. When you idle it's loading up and running very rich. Give gas and you are beginning to flood the intake. At high RPM's the engine is keeping up with the excessive amount of fuel. When you come to a stop, hold the accelerator down slightly to keep the engine running.I want to do a JDM conversion to my 94 2dr Integra!!!?
