Transmission leaking where housings meet on Dodge Ram 1500, what's involved in the fix?

I didn't see any reference to changing the gasket in the Haynes manual. Anyone have an idea on the labor involved?

I take it that u are referring to the tail housing and the main housing. Remove drive line, speed-o- sensor,and any other wire hold downs note where they go for proper installation.If trans mount is on tail housing. remove 2 bolts. lift trans from pan. Remove remaining bolts holding mount. remove mount. remove bolts around housing. some models have a cover under where the mount goes. it has 2 Philips screw head bolts. remove them, there is a gasket there two. remove the cover and using a spanner wrench or equivalent spread clip open while pulling housing out. clean thoroughly. some only came with oil resistant rtv. others have o ring. find your type. most likely silicone.

Next time buy a manual transmission. Ford,G.M. or Dodge cannot build a transmission that will last. The old days a Ford trans would last 400,000 mile, not no more.
Its probably your transmission bushing gone bad. Ford's do it to. Put loctite on it before you put it back in the trans.

Are you talking the housings where the transfer case & the transmission bolt together? If so you need to pull the transfer case out & put a new output shaft seal on the back of the transmission.
