i am putting in a new head unit and i need to know if the old head unit has an amp on it so i can disable it. please help.

Trace the RCAs to see if it as a fitted amp. I would be suprised if it does.. The amp would normally power the meaty speakers so if you do have one and you remove it you will have to run the cables also from these speakers back to your head so if it does have on then just use it, as you are only changing the head I cant see how you would loose.. Anyway as I said I would be suprised
