I drove to San Diego once from south Orange County and the display showed I was getting about 52mpg. On average, I get around 48mpg. People who get less are either taking many 5 minute trips or are driving too agressively, or may be drving in freezing weather.

One of the cars in my company is a prius and they get 60 mpg for mixed town and motorway use, ( thats an imperial gallon not US). We also use small diesels, especially renault clio diesels and they often get 70 mpg and one employee has seen 80+.there are some modified US based prius that are acheiving over 110 mpg (US gallons)

Just like any vehicle it is going to vary depending on your climate and your particular driving habits, but from speaking with multiple owners (100+) most are telling me they are averaging in the 45-50mpg overall after a bit of "practice". That's living in Western New York with 6 months of winter driving, so not too bad overall.hope this helps.
I own a Prius, and I have got 100 mpg, but I was running on the electric motor. My Avg. Is 48mpg, but I like in an area with a lot of hills, so you might get better milage that me if you live in a flat area. Good Luck!
