It could be a plugged catalytic converter. That would cause a build up of back pressure and less power, and you'd use more fuel.

the cataltyc converter may be bad thats part of your exhaust system that happened to my cougar. your tires may need air that also burns fuel fast. I don't think worn out tires will burn a lot of fuel.

Wore out tires and over pressurized, under pressure tires can cause worse fuel mileage. But so can dirty injectors, dirty fuel filter, SOMETIMES a bad cat can cause fuel problems but its not as common. Dirty air filter also! If your tires are bad replace them. And have your fuel system cleaned and have the air, fuel filters replaced. If it doesn't help then you might have other serious problems. But I'm positive that doing these things will increase you fuel mileage.
