It dependa entirely on your budget and your comfort levels. I own both Maruti Esteem and Wagon R. Both are excellent vehicles. While Esteem offers you the luxury of a big car, Wagon R feels very spaciuos once you are inside it. Esteem is a low floor car where if you are tall, you might feel a bit uncomfortable while getting in and out of the car. On the other hand, Wagon R being a Tall boy design offers you excellent access and exit. If you have old parents, then Wagon R is the car for you.
Dont go in for Alto as it is more a replacement for M800 rather than an option when you are looking at Wagon R and Esteem. Alto LXi only has power steering and AC, nothing more than that.
I would suggest you, test ride both the cars and buy one which suits you and gives a good feeling. Both are excellent cars and fuel efficiency is approx the same.

Also, Esteem offers you a huge boot space which is not Wagon R's forte.

It totally depends upon your own choice. Your options are quite out of bounds.. 2 small cars and 1 mid segment car!! So if Esteem is in your budget than its the best coz its got more power and comfort than the other 2 cars.
