What are the benefits/drawbacks of wheel spacers?

Question:
I have a Vauxhall Astra and would like to know if anyone has used spacers on their Astra. Did they improve the handling by much, or not at all?

Answers:

I have a Cadillac Escalade w/ woodgrain interior trim that is turning cloudy. How can I bring back the luster?

I know someone who did, handling was worse, was pretty good anyway mk1 GTE, but it also wore out his wheel bearings in a few weeks too, they were quite wide tho, go to a local car place n see what they say, without knowing wheel/tyre width of spacer, I wouldn't take anyone's word for the outcome before seeing them . . . . .

My check engine light is on,but my jeep runs fine.Anyone have any ideas??

Defo go for the wider wheel option, know it's more expensive, but much safer, cheaper in the long run

On American Cars, properly fitted wheel spacers may provide a chance to install oversized non-oem alloy wheels. The project is usually to position the wheels/tires such that they don't come in contact with the steering, suspension, or fenders. Wide spacers, more than 1/2 inch, are seldom satisfactory because the centrifugal forces, balancing and sometimes alignment, are so hard to get right. The bearing loads with a small spacer plate should not cause so much heat build up that the bearing fails. Too many other variables, especially if the vehicle is to be used on autobahns or freeways with speeds over 50 Km/hr. (31 mph). Never put wheel spacers on the fancy German Cars, (BMW, Porsche, Audi, Mbz, etc.)
