Does a bmw, e30 325i, m20 12 valve head fit on a 328i block from an e36/46?

i bought an e30 325i sport and the engine lost oil pressure because of big end bearing wear, so i want to see if i can upgrade my block to a 328 but still keep my 12 valve head

Im almost certain it won't and if you do put that head on you will lose 12 valves, vanos and atleast 50 horsepower. Those M20 engines are everywhere so you should be able to get another one really cheap.

Not even a chance. Even if it were possible, I don't know why someone would want to do that. The M50 engine (incl cylinder head) is light years ahead of the M20 in every respect. But to answer your question simple and direct, the bolt pattern and cooling jackets wouldn't line up.
