I have driven the saturn sky, which is the same car with a diferent chassis on it, and UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES would I give it to a 16 year old, especially as a first car. It has entirely too much power for a new driver, and even though it is very easy to control and holds the road great, as a first car, it presents entirely too much temptation to do stupid things with it and end up wrecking the car and possibly killing yourself.In case you were thinking that I am a father trying to protect dumb kids, I am 20. It's a fast car, and there is way too much potential for something to go wrong. Also, from my experience, most new drivers will be involved in at least one minor accident, and that would be extremely expensive to repair. The insurance for a 16 year old even without an accident, would be extremely expensive.

heck no..most new drivers have an accident . get a 2 to 4 year old buick..Im not kidding..They r big enough for hauling friends. get good millage and r dirt cheap..Old folks trade them in like crazy and anyone who wants a buick can afford a new one. insurance is cheap too...check it out befor you buy

I just bought a solstice and I love it, HOWEVER, you will be a speed trap in that car and your insurance will be more than the car payment, if you can even get insured with it.That is a nice little car, but it isn't practical as a first car, or as your only car. It's too small. What about a Scion TC?
Well-no. I just bought one yesterday. It is a play car for us. We don't use it for a primary vehicle. But, my wife literally has nowhere to place her purse in the solstice. You are extremely limited on what you can bring with you, especially with a passenger. The trunk holds very little.
Don't get me wrong. I love it for the purpose of a toy. But it really would not suit the lifestyle of 99+% of 16 yr olds. As far as too much power for you, I and many of my friends had powerful cars as teens. Most respected their vehicles too much. I don't think any more of the high horsepower club killed/injured themselves than any other kids.

We scraped up the remains of a 16 year old kid a few months ago - the driver was going WAY too fast in his dad's 5.0 Mustang and didn't have the experience to: A) know he was going too fast, and B) save the car when it went into a skid.anyone know what the timing is for a 460 ford engine around 77-78?
I know the Solstice is a sweet looker, but no way should any new driver have a car with that much power to weight. Too much temptation, and it is so easy to get in over your head very quickly.
BTW, this probably sounds like wimpy advice, but I just bought a 400 hp GTO, and am concerned my 17 yr old will take it for an unnanounced 'test drive'.

Honestly I think it has too much power for some adults and teens and I'm 16 too...i suggest a pontiac g6 nice compact and it has just enough power to have a little fun and not feel like ur gonna kill urself in the near futureNO NO NO that car is a toy, not a real daily driver. Besides a car aint cool if you can only give your friends a ride on at a time.

If you really want something like that check out the new Chryler Sebring. But Ill tell you what....I had a VW Cabriolet, it was great, good learner car, great gas mileage, and everyone loved it.
