Is a problem with the emission control system on our Dodge Grand Caravan major? What can happen because of it?

The check engine light on our 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan recently came on. We had an engine check run at a local auto parts store. It came back as an emissions control problem.

no its not really that serious.could be o2 sensor in catylitic converter.but its enough it might be worth getting fixed.i have heard of o2 sensors causing lack in fuel mileage and performance.but as far as safety issues your ok .

On OBD-II systems (1996 and up) you can throw an emissions code if the gas cap is not on tight. This is because there is a pressure sensor in the tank that works with the EVAP system. If the cap is loose, the pressure is off and the computer throws a code for a leak (because there is one).
