2004 jeep wrangler RHD conversion?

Question:
i have a good customer that wants his 2004 wrangler,4.0,5spd manual trans, converted to RHD.ive told him no 3 times,he really is a very good customer and i would hate to lose him,but what he wants done would be way beyond what we can do here at the shop.i imagine if we had all the parts we could do it,and i know jeep made RHD wranglers, but they were all automatics.this guy wants something different and he is dead set on getting this done.we are a general repair shop and really dont get into modifing vehicles.i know that i can do the work, but how involved would it be? where would i get parts? australia? uk? any help is greatly appreciated!!

Having the head gasket done on my Peugeot 206, mechanic wants the car for 3 days. This seems a long time?

The steering box must go to other side
Dash must be swapped with RHD version
Firewall must be modified
Brake booster and clutch master moved
Battery must be moved to where the brake booster was
And of course the steering wheel and pedals move over.

Will vauxhall wheels fit honda civic?

Here's a list of changes to the drive train: NOTHING! RHD trannies are exactly the same as LHD ones (first is still in the top left). So if the tranny is the same the t-case is the same. If the T-case is the same, the driveshafts are in the same place. And if the shafts are in the same place that means the axles are the same.

Flaming River sells RH steering boxes. Get one of those and locate it on the frame opposite to the original. Disconnect the steering linkages at the knuckles and reinstall it flipped around. That's it the steering is dealt with.

Get in touch with a scrap yard in England (internet). Tell them your story and that you want to purchase a TJ firewall (If your customer is serious he'll pay for what's necessary), and have it shipped to you. When you get it use it as a template for where you have to cut for steering, brakes and clutch. Resist the temptation to just weld it in. There are differences in lot's of mounting points. You only want to move what's necessary.

You might be able to reuse the drivers dash and the passengers dash with some creative mounting otherwise include that with the firewall purchase from England.

Run a new line from the clutch master to the clutch and new brake lines. A new longer accelerator cable will be necessay. New battery and alternator cables will be necessary. Increase the cable size to compensate for the added length. Run new power steering hoses being careful to avoid moving and hot parts (consider hard lines).

Internal wiring will be a biatch. Leave the fuse box where it is and run new wires where necessary. Also extend / replace any guage wires to reach the dash.

The only problem I can see it the track bar might interfere with the steering. I'm not sure the it can be relocated to the other side. You'll have to check or get creative.

What are some aftermarket fuel saving add-ons for a 2007 Nissan Titan?

Other than the RHD box and maybe the dash, there are no other special parts. I've also overly simplified the job but in essence this is it. My guess it'll take about two weeks of solid work with about 800-2000 dollars in parts.

If you want to be original this is the way to go, otherwise get one imported from England.

Where can i find a postal jeeps?

you will probably get alot of dummies saying dont do it or it cant be done or why do it.i say if he is a good customer, tell him you will do your best and see what happens.i would try to contact someone in australia or england and ask them if they have ever converted a newer jeep to rhd.the aussie jeep is made in ohio but the ratt bas----ds at jeep wont sell you one.you have to buy in down under and have it brought back.that is my huge beef with toyota, they sell 4door trucks over seas with a manual trans but they wont sell it in the states.i blame the baby boomers.the local toyota dealer told me they cant sell a truck with a manual trans and no a/c because no one would buy it.too many boomers cry and whine if they dont have heated seats,a./c,auto,etc.thats why new trucks are 30-50k.i have been in the auto business now for along time,i feel that if toyota or anyone else sells a certain model in another country it should be for sale here too.just my 2cents! try and find a jeep club in australia or england and see what they have to say.

Did you know that KIA's are p.o.s???

I would refuse the work. Unless this guy delivers rural mail (the only reason RHD jeeps were sold in North America) this is a worthless conversion. The entire body tub is different on the LHD and the RHD (differences in the firewall for steering, brake master cylinder, ect.) It would make more sense to get a whole new jeep. Think also of all of the wiring differances. The steering box is mounted on the other side and a complete axle swap is generally in order to make steering linkage match. Just say no.
