Question:
I have a lot of play in the ignition and sometimes I cannot get the truck to start. Normally when you put the key in you see the check engine light and the ABS light come on, fuel pump activates and it starts right up. Then if I stop and come back to the truck and try to start it no light comes on and I do not hear the fuel pump activate. Is the an activating mechanism in the cylinder that tells the motor you want to start the truck? Could the ignition cylinder be bad?
Answers:
The book will tell you how to replace your key ignition cylinder.
yup... source a new one from ford or a truck wreckers could be cheaper. just before you do, pull the plastic cover off and make sure there isnt a corrosion buildup on the terminals going into the ignition barrel itself. hope it helps
Are Volkswagen Jettas and Beetles reliable cars?
It may need an ignition tumbler/cylinder or the actual ignition switch may be faulty. The switch needs a special torx socket to be removed, usually dealers have the tool to remove it. But since you say you have a lot of play in the ignition it sounds more like the tumbler is failing inside the cylinder. Good luck I hope you get it resolved!More Questions & Answers ...
