A knocking in the engine when car is idle?

I had a 97 Jetta and 98 beetle and loved both. The Jetta had 209,000 miles on it when I sold if for $2000 and she still got 34 mpg! I figured with the cost and repairs I had into it, it only cost me $1200 a year to own, not including gas, oil, and tires.

I washed my new Jeep wrangler in the car wash with the gas cap off by mistake. will that ruin my engine?

The Beetle was a TDI and got between 48 and 54 mpg! I don't like the interiors as they are cheap plastic, but I had incredible power and she rarely caused issues. I sold her for $7000 this year!

Beetle...has issues, interior doesn't hold up well, has more issues than most VW's.

Dodge viper?

Depending upon the year. For most of the 1990s, Consumer Reports says avoid both the Jetta and the Beetle. Jettas improved around 2002, but still had some issues. Beetles are still crap.

Honda Civic 2007 Hybrid - WHAT DID YOU PAY?

you can do some research online but i would say that anything after 2002 are the most reliable, stay away from the VR6 model befare 2003 and i would recommend a GLS or Better model with a 1.8T engine in a manual.

1999 Lincoln town car?

Are you talking about used or new? In general, their reliability is questionable lately compare to Japanese cars. Most common issues (model 2000 - 2003) I have been told for these 2 models are such as bad O2 sensor (front side), driver seat motor, power windows (recall item), overheat (V6), power loss (turbo lag issue on 1.8T), rattle from dashboard, squeak inside driver/passenger doors, etc...
When it's brand new, it lets you enjoy the good quality ride without any problem, not until it reaches 40K and more, then you will notice the common issues.
If you are planning to buy any of these used, make sure you drive slowly and pay attention to those sound/noise mentioned above and have a mechanic to inspect it beforehand.

Nissan 300ZX : are "some" 1984 - "highly valued collectables?"?

I partially agree with KING K meaning that all secondhand cars will cost to fix as this is usually the reason most people sell them. Besides Boredom.
Yes they are both reliable cars but U have to remember that not all cars are faultless, even a ferrari 360 has problems sure not that many but you know what i mean.
And if u happen to buy the one that came of the production line in a hurry chances are that any make of car is going to be a "lemon" and sour your opinion of that vehicle and manufacturer. So Yes thay are reliable to a point and then it becomes a "car".
Good luck

Is it possible to put a full or mini spool in 1990 nissan 240sx differential?

I just traded my 1999 (with the new body style) Jetta GLX VR6 with 144,000 miles and it was still running great. I just wanted an SUV for the family. I hadn't had any problems out of the car. A guy at the dealer getting my oil changed told me the the VR6 was the best motor VW had ever made. I do have to say the maintance was more costly then most car but they last.

89 Cougar won't run during wet weather?

Yep. VW rates lower on reliability studies primarily because their owners tend to be pickier(any time you go to a dealership for anything, it counts as a "problem")

How can I fix a high speed vibration on a 91 YJ?

Yes. I have a 2001 Jetta and I haven't had any huge problems with it. I would reccomend doing the regular maintenance though which can be expensive but its worth it because my car runs great and its at almost 100k miles. Its also really fun to drive and you can fit in teeny tiny parking spots = )
