Nissans are great cars ive had my 02 sentra and its never left me stranded, Maximas are a bit pricey compared to Altimas but you can get very similar packages (leather seats, bose sound system, gps navigation) for the Altima at a couple grand less that if you get the Maxima with similar options, if you have the money go Maxima, but if you want a few grand left in your pocket go with the altima, the 07's rock.. take care and good luckHow To Tell If My 1997 Ford Taurus Has Keyless Entry?

If you are looking into a 90's model then you MUST get the Maxima. Back then the Altime was cheaply made and had a weak engine.
As for the 00's and up both the maxima and the altima have strong engines and comparable features.
The new altimas are actually faster than the maxima and they handle a bit better due to lower weight.

they are both awesome cars, i have an 05 Altima 3.5 SE and i love that thing to death. if i had a choice i would hold off and wait till the Altima coupe comes out(which should be soon). then again, i don't know if you are looking for a 2 or 4 door.
