Torque them to 12-14 pounds. Use anti seize on the threads. Yes they really need to be torqued. They have a history of blowing plugs out if not done this way. Ford had a TSB on this you should be able to find it on the net.

Do not over tighten the plugs. they do not have to be torqued. just run them in snug and give them a 1/4 turn and you won't have any problems.
