I'd take the XK.What is required for these limits to be pushed in hot countries ?
The late 90's SL's will probably suffer from Mercedes recent electrical headaches. This can get expensive. The Jaguar has a couple of weak spots in the engine...the timing chain tensioners and Nikasil liners. An engine repair can be very expensive.
The speedometer goes down to 0 and then the S on the dashboard starts to flash what caused this?
Given a choice between a 90's Mercedes and a 90's Jaguar, I'd take the Lexus.
In this case, I would go for the XK8 or XKR (1997 - 2006) instead of SL (1989 - 2001). Also that the first generation of XK is actually the same platform with Aston Martin DB7 which is cool. It's definitely a fast and reliable car. Not much major problems I have heard so far but it is really depending on the year, mileage, condition of the car that you looking for.

dude my dad owns a MB shop and all of the SL's perform awesome and are very reliable. jaguar r nothin but problems and just straight up garbarge. all the SL that come threw are just great performers and reliable for real..99 grand prix Coolant Tank...?
go for the Sl mercedes hold their resale value so in a few years when you dont want it anymore you could resale the benz at a good price but the jag the value will be down pretty low and your would lose alot of moneyWhat does the GT stand for in Mustang GT?
The 90's version of the SL are hands down what to drive-own. Ford has never made a great Jag yet...Unless you MUST have the V-8 version of the SL, the DOHC inline 6 of the 3.0 or 3.2 L version makes very smooth HP, and is MUCH less to maintain whne doing tune-ups, etc. It also get's better MPG.
