I have a Pontiac Grand Am and it's coming up on 140,000 miles. I need it to last me another year until I get out of college. What can I do besides oil changes every three months to ensure that'll last that long. Thanks!!

Tune up, plugs gapped,cleaned and/or replaced, timed. Check ignition wires, battery cables, hoses, distributor cap. Keep all fluids up (there are like 11 you know). Brake pads and rotors, muffler and catalytic converter, exhaust pipes intact. Tires inflated to proper psi, kept balanced and rotated. Keeping the car washed keeps corrosion down.Alot of basic wear and tear items can be maintained on your own and get the longest use out of them. Good luck! Been there done that!

Dont drive it hard. Engines last up to 200,000 miles, some even more but thats the average miles an engine lasts. my firebird is over 200,000 and its still running. Keep good tires on it and whoever changes the oil, ask them if they see anything out of sorts. Watch out though, some shops will try to sell you somerhing you don't need. Check their rep!!Have you EVER had the timing belt changed?
