Change the ATF every 25,000 miles using type A Automatic Trans Fluid. Be very careful not to overfill the trans. Be sure to clean or replace the filter screen. Be sure the transmission ATF is warm when checking fluid level. Be very careful with any BMW that may have the GM automatic transmission installed. (early 1990s) It usually has no dipstick with which to check the fluid level. The procedure for refilling and checking the GM auto trans is different from other transmissions. There is supposed to be a dealer bulletin about the problems with the GM transmission ATF monitoring and servicing.
