In my opinion, both are good choices. The Scion is backed by Toyota, meaning excellent quality and a good warranty; and the looks aren't terrible. The Jetta has four doors, making it more practical; looks aren't terrible. I personally would choose the one that you enjoy driving the most, so take a test drive. Having driven both a 2006 tC and a 2005 Jetta, I would go with the Jetta. They feel much quicker and are a little more nimble. Personally I think the Scion looks like a box on wheels, but it does have a decent gas rating and can fit 5 of my friends in it. whereas the Jetta is sporty, good gas rating, and can only fit 4 of my friends( 3 w/o being squashed). lol
