BMW 528i is leaking Transmission Fluid...What to do??

My 1999 BMW 528i is leaking transmission fluid. I was planning on driving from san diego to san francisco (500 Miles) on friday...should i get this fixed before i leave? and any ideas what could be wrong? thanks

Usually transmission leaks on e39 5 series (like yours) are not that serious, unless you run it out of fluid...or take it to the dealer. Just kidding, it's likely a hose or gasket. I would find a shop that specializes in BMW service and get their input. Worst case take it to the stealer, er I mean dealer and have them check it out. No, worst case is you attempt a 500 mile road trip with a leaking transmission.

Of course you should get it fixed. I also have a 528i and its a pain in the butt. When it runs - its a thing of beauty. Driving wise it is a thing of beauty but something happened and the electronic door lock engaged. Now I can't use the key to open the door. So for the past week I have been climbing over the passenger side. As you know, nothing is cheap on a BMW. That's why BMW stands for Bring My Wallet.
