Question:
I have a 2001 Focus zx3, up to date on maintenance, checked out before driving from PA to FL, checked fine - on second day of drive I lost all dash gauges, and car started bucking - limped over to side of 95, couldn't find anything wrong, started up again - got towed could not find an issue. Next day took to Ford dealer they said alternator - changed it went 100 miles car died on road - next shop could not duplicate, but because of our complaints replaced feul pump - picked up car for drive back to PA - made it to MD, car started bucking, Check engine light stated feul pump problem - nothing noted car test drove fine, got home could not drive around town with out car stalling at every stop - back in shop again - prior to this no problems ever with car - any clues ideas - help!

I have had the same problem. There is a Focus recall on the 2001 models for the fuel pump cutting out if you take a right turn with less than 1/4 tank of gas. Then if you let it sit for a while and reset, the car will start up without a problem (wish I'd know that before I paid for the tow).Setting the clock in a volkswagen passat?
Then if that doesn't fix it, it could be the EGR valve sensor or the valve itself. If the car is stalling out when you are at high RPMs (you know, when you're driving it like normal) this is the most likely culprit. This is the current problem I am having with my car which is at the shop as I type this.
As much as I like my car, the 2001 model seems to have a rediculous number of fuel-system related problems.
my 2003 focus does weird things to but the dealer can never find whats wrong with it, they are crappy cars
Just remember that Ford stands for "Fixed or Repaired Daily." That's what each letter of Ford means, and it's 100% true. It also stands for "Found on Road Dead." You should consider getting a Japaneese car next, like Toyota and Nissan.

Sounds like a fuel pump, it is possible you got a bad new pump. seen it happen before...or it could be you PCM, mass airflow sensor. Or just like everyone else your ford tech could of made a mistake when installing your pump and did something wrong, we are human too. Still sounds like a fuel pump we see those go bad alot.More Questions & Answers ...
