have the fuel system cleaned professionaly,check coils and distributor,have the timing checked,have the TPS checkeddistributor cap. i had the same problem with a brand new one, back in 99. the dealer replace all the hoses, plugs and cap and the car ran like a champ.

I had a 95 Escort that did the same thing. Bad fuel sending unit. Mine was mounted inside the gas tank. I think yours is also. Also, they have, like most vehicles nowadays, a closed fuel system. That means that the system is pressurized. If you have a bad, (leaky), gasket on your gas cap, it may cause problems. But then it would stall just idling.
