I would prefer to not have an AC if it is going to cost a frew hundred dollars just to buy the new compressor. Can I just remove it and put a shorter belt on the other pulleys that are currently attached to the compressor?

AC is not an Air Compressor. It's air conditioning and the compressor compresses refrigerant, not air.Chevy Aveo. What weight of oil? And How many quarts?
You can probably buy the belt that fits the same model, but without AC. Then you won't turn the compressor.

I've seen this done before. You'll also probably want to disconnect the thingy (that's the technical term!) that engages and disengages the compressor, but it's not absolutely required. You'll just hear a clicking every time it tries to turn on.

Yes, you can do that.Just get the serpentine belt for the same model w/ out AC. That will do the trick.
