I have a 1991 Ford ranger and the transmission seems to be stuck in fifth gear?

Question:
Last night i was riding around and when i shifted, it got stuck and how do i get it out. I know you can take the stick out of the hole by taking the three little screws out and use a screw driver to pop it out of gear, but i cant get the screws out need help bad

This happens to me all of the time take the screws out even if you have to use brute force look in the transmission and you'll see the shift rods make sure they are in line with each other if not align them up

For a job like that I would just go to your local mechanic. You don't want to break anything and cause it to cost a lot of money. At this time just going to a mechanic is your best choice.

How much for a 1984 Audi 5000s Turbo?

Sounds like you have one of the shift rods in a bind. Happened on my 95 Ford PU several times. You'll have to pull out more than the shifter, you'll have to take the top off of the trans., has 8-10 small bolts that holds it on. (You can usually do this without dropping the tranny though) Below that are a series of sliders and rods that engage the gears. You'll have 3 on that 5 speed, and the far left one is for 5th and reverse. I think it was less than $20 last time I replaced one. Had 2nd-3rd do it once, and 5th-reverse the other time. Tranny's aren't rocket science, get a good reference book for your truck from the parts store (Haines or Chiltons manual). Also check out http://www.therangerstation.com/... There is a ton of info on there about your truck.

BTW, every time mine did this, it was also low on fluid. Pretty sure the Mazda M5OD' like yours used automatic transmission fluid instead of gear oil... check your manual but I know the Mazda tranny I had in my 95 used automatic transmission fluid, most of Ford manual tranny's have since the late 80's till now.

My 1991 Honda Accord is leaking stearing fluid. Can i put some stop leak in it and stop the leak?

If it,s stuck in 5 th gear you have internal transmision problems.Removing shiftrer and tyrying to pry with a screwdriver will not fix it.I recommend you bring it to a transmission shop
