1998 BMW gas "door" doesnt lock?
Your front drive-shaft isn't in as much danger as the cv joints in the front axles. If you're stranded, lock it in, throw the drive shaft in the back, and go on home. Then go get what you need to fix it the next morning, and replace your Universal joint. It'll be okay short term, but teh vehicle wasn'y designed to operate this way, and it will not take long to loosen up the entire front end of the explorer if you continue driving it like this. I have also done this in a Ford pick up, I drove home, then went to work for about a week on the front end, waiting for the weather to fair up a bit, and I wound up having to change the axle-shaft universals at the steering knuckle. A ten minute job turned into 6 hours. Silly me. Any way, it's okay to get where you HAVE to go, just get it straightened out as soon as possible. i have done the exact same thing i did drive it using the front wheels only but it is not designed for that so yes it will break but it can work if it breaks and you are stranded somewhere only drive that way foe a very limited amount of time do not count on itCan you help with BMW 316 1994 manufacturers part number for airflow metering box?

It will be OK for easy driving--to get home or to workuntil you can have it fixed. Just take it easy and keep speeds
down.
