My husband has an 85 CJ7 and he is about to put a lift on it.

Answers:
It sounds a little high to me. A lift will cost anywhere from $250 to around $450 and some include shocks in the price. The install is very simple on that type of Jeep and to have someone do it should only take about 3 hours at the most to do it. You could save some money doing it yourself with only some basic tools and a jack and jack stands. Jack the Jeep up and support the frame near the front with the stands, and then use the jack to take the pressure off of your spring bolts to remove each leaf pack. The new springs will bolt up the same and that is about it. If the kit includes a new pitman arm then you could borrow or rent a puller to remove the arm and put the new one on. Autozone will rent this tool free of charge, all you leave is a deposit till the tool is returned. It's a good chance to wrench on your Jeep and have the pride of doing it yourself when the work is done!
