What year steering columns are interchangeable on chevy trucks and suburbans?

Question:
Does any one know a good website to find this out?
It seems to always be a good question and debate with truck guys. For example I have a column out of an 89 Suburban that I want to put in my 84 burb, can I? (fyi- I say yes)
I know that 74 and up Chevy "TRUCKS" were the same in till "88" but "SUBURBANS" didn't change in till "92"? So can they all interchange from the 80's big body genre? I hope I was clear enough, thanks for the help!
(also, by column I mean the shaft inside the cab VS. the actual column rod in the engine bay) Thanks!

I've went through this myself having done several of these kind of swaps and have come to the conclusion that the as long the windshield wiper switch is mounted on dash , automatic or standard shift (duh) , and maybe the cruse control , and the years you mentioned should just about be a bolt in. You may have change the "outside column" shaft down to the steering gear box. Some newer models have a telescoping outside shaft.
There are exceptions with the very early years but I have made them work.
Tilt or standard column will work.
