The fuel filter on the Audi 100 :open bonnet standing on the front of the car looking at the engine the fuel filter is on your left hand side on the top by the suspension top it look like a canister of about 3'' to 4'' diameter in aluminium a rubber pipe at each end.

If your car is naturally aspirated the fuel filter should be a canister type situated next to the fuel pump. If Injection there could be two, one may be fitted as nat asp or further back along the fuel feed and on certain catalyst models there was an additional filter near the fuel tank. If your car is diesel it could be anywhere.
The easiest way to find it (or them) is just to follow the fuel lines back and you will come to it although you may have to raise the car and crawl underneath.
