what is the expected mpg on a 1996 ford E-350 7.3 power stroke diesel on the highway ?
most shift in terlocks are located on the steering colunm but some cars with floor shifts can be on the shifter it self.are you having a problem with it not letting you shift all the time or just some of the time.many times the shift lock is not the problem, its the brake lights not working or the fuse for the brake lights has blown.
ck ans see if you have a overide button on the shifter you can push to let you shift,if it allows you to shift than your interlock solenoid is probally ok.
most of the time a solenoid
like that fails it will be frozen in one position, and be hard to move.
i own a repair shop, and the interlock switch is located behind the brake pedal,,that may be all that's wrong with it,,that's usually all that does go wrong with them,id check it before i did anything else,,its a simple fix,and not a very expensive one either,,good luck with it,hope this help,s.happy new years also.
Actually, on that year and model, the shift interlock solenoid is located on the steering colomn. Remove the steering colomn lower shroud and disconnect the BTSI solenoid connector (brake/transmission shift interlock). There should be two screws to removed then you can take out the defective solenoid. When you install the new one make sure that the hook at the end of the plunger engages the lever pawl pin than screw it in.
