Question:
My '99 Grnd Cherokee 8cyl/4.7 is getting high oil pressure reading and my engine oil leaks from the oil filter.
I think high oil pressure is causing the oil leak from oil filter.
My jeep has about 100k miles on it.
I've done some research online and found out that I might be having bad oil pump or pressure relief valve got stuck.
Or the oil pressure sensor got oiled up from oil leaks and giving bad reading.
At first I thought the radiator water got leaked to engine oil and that was why the oil pressure got high. (I get about 45-60 pressure reading while driving with hot engine and idle with cold engine but never over 60)
Last night I drained and flushed radiator and it was so dirty but no trace of oil mixed up with coolant.
Any suggestions or idea what might be causing high oil pressure on my car ? Also how can I fix the oil leak? I don't see any other place leaking but from the oil filter.
I thank you all for your help and time in advance.

Your pressure is fine. When it drops, you should really worry. As for the oil filter, it's either put in wrong, double o-ringed, or no o-ring there. Change the oil, put a new filter on (don't use the old one no matter what), and make sure you use a little bit of oil to grease/seal the o-ring on the new filter.sounds like a bad oil pump. This will be great fun because if the oil pan is anything like the 4.0 you have to just about pull the motor to get the pan off. so have fun!!

60 pounds of oil pressure isn't that high it mean you have a good oil pump. when you have low oil pressure its time to worry. as for the leaking oil filter try changing it but put oil around the rubber seal.I have a 96 ford contour standard that don't always want to start?
The first thing I would do is replace the oil filter to ensure that it is sealed. Then I would replace the oil sending unit. This will ensure you are not getting a bad signal from it. If this doesn't correct the problem, then I would plan on dropping the oil pan and replacing the oil pump. Make sure while you are in there that you pull the pump screen and clean it real good. The only other thing I can think of concerning high oil pressure is the gears on the end of the distributor and camshaft. On some models that the pump is gear driven, the gear will get worn and cause the pump to act weird and do what you are describing. These are the only things I can think of at the moment. How about posting a note and let me know what it was. I would like to know for future reference. Good luck.car trouble need help! Bmw 318i?
That is a bad oil pump. HA HA, Have fun fixin' that.Does anyone know when the vehicle called Mustang by Giugiaro will be out on the market??
if you pressure was low before you could have a bearing starting to spin(rod or main)and this would partially plug an oil hole in the crankshaft thus raising your oil pressureMore Questions & Answers ...
