Question:
What do I have to do without a timing light and just using my hands and eyes to get it close enough to get it in time? Can someone please tell me step by step the procedure on what I have to do to get my 1985 Ford Ranger 2.8 V6 4 wheel drive 5 speed truck into time? Just to get the darn thing started!!

I have a 91 miata can i install a 94 and above intake and just put breathers on all the other opening?

wi_saint seems to have the best answer so far but here's something people have not mentioned It only works for engines that have ignition points, and I don't know about your '85 Ford.

I need the filter location on my jeep cherokee chief 1985?

The spark plug fires when the points just open. You can detect this with a 12 volt trouble light on a lead. Connect one clip to the terminal on the side of the distributor, the other to a good ground. Remove the distrib cap so the engine can't fire, turn on the ignition. The correct timing mark should be on the bottom pulley a few degrees before TDC. Line that up. When the points are closed they short out the 12V lamp which will be dull, glowing faintly or out. As soon as they open the lamp will get brighter or come on. (If it's on all the time the points are not closing or are bad.) Rotate the distrib so that the lamp just lights. Your timing will then be perfect.

Whats the best car out of these?

I have used this method on a number of different models and makes from a '48 Buick to a late 70s Toyota Celica and it always came out spot on.

Hyundai Tiburon Bra?

I could IF i knew WHY U know it's OUT of time-Did U put in a new chain or belt- take out the distributor ? pull all the plug wires - Do u know where #1 cylinder is - do u know the rotation of the engine- THE firing order ?

Pontiac trans am engine?

loosen the distibutor...bolt holds a clip to keep it in place...turn to the right as you look at it .that will advance the timing...you just have to adjust left to right until you hit the point you need to start it...then go get another timing gear/chain...your chit is wore out.if it does not start...pull #1 plug and check for fire...could be a cracked distibutor cap...good luck

I need help. Im looking for a great used cars for adding performance parts. What should i choose?

With a cheap service manual, you can do this in about 1-1-1/2 hrs.
Determine which cyl. needs to be brought up to TDC.
remove spark plug of said cyl.
(at this point, I tear a large piece of plasic grocery bag and make a plug) I stuff the plug into the spark hole, and turn the crank pulley by hand to bring the cyl to TDC on the compression stroke.
When it hits TDC, the plug will be pushed out, and then you can determine where your rotor is sitting.
Replace the sparkplug and start your plug wires from that cap position, and follow the firing order around the cap.
It is best to place the plug wire in its proper order, rather than one bank and then the other, as it is very easy to lose your "bearings" while you are placing the wire.
This is called "static" time, and you can get functional with it, but you really need a light to dial it in for both power and economy.

I just read your added details.
If you did not pull the wires, replace the timing chain, or pull the distributor, AND it won't start.
It is:
1. The ignition module on the inner fenderwall. Pull it off the fenderwall, and look at the back. If it is clear, it is bad. It should be a dark almost black color.
2. contaminated gas (a lot of bad gas)
3. Slipped time (requires the procedure given above)
