The timing on the cam lobes are different for each engine size, make, sometimes the year. swapping out the cam will not work. Not enough cam lobes for the number of valves.

Why not? However, I would also take the hood and underhood wiring harness and PCM from the donor vehicle. The DOHC cars came with a bulge in the hood to give the DOHC's wider heads good clearance and a dual outlet on the muffler. Note that the difference in horsepower between the S and DOHC is only 18 factory horsepower - from 132hp to 150hp. The factory stock DOHC was cammed, and I assume PCM modified, for torque at a higher rpm. You would easily match or exceed this increase in horsepower by using much less taxing modifications on your existing engine. The web site http://www.neons.org/ has information on SOHC to DOHC conversion.
