What does the EPC on a VW Passat do?

Question:
When I turn on the car before ignition the light comes on and then goes off, I was just wondering what it does. I know it stands for Electronic Parking Control.

epc stands for electronic powertrain control. epc is part of the cars traction control system, traction control is what causes your tires not to spin when you are taking off on a slippery surface. your car doesn't have a throttle cable the throttle is all controlled electronically (EPC).

how do you change the back door on a vw caddy van?

The EPC is a safety feature to help you control the vehicle under inclement conditions. In certain cars (my Audi A6-4.2 for instance) there is a dashboard switch that will disable this feature. This only wants to be done under certain circumstances, such as rocking the car to get out of a rut due to snow or such. If this were to happen in my quattro, I would never get out with out turning off the EPC.
If you do not have this feature then you do not have the VW 4Motion feature and therefore cannot turn it off.
