Hi, anyone have any recommendations or suggestions as to which of the two are more reliable, a better overall value, as I’m planning on getting one. . . 2000-2002. Aside from their high safety rep. I find them extremely appealing, not to mention their somewhat in competition with BMW 5 series and Benz E class(S80), Audi A4 and Lexus 300(S 60). Affordable luxury indeed.

The S60 and S80 I believe were updated in model year 2002 so presumably they changed all the little problems that they had when they updated. So I would suggest if possible for you to buy a model year 2002. If possible stay away from the AWD version unless prepared to deal witht he intricacies of AWD such as tire replacement - your tires need to be exactly the same circumference or else you put a strain on the AWD tranny. Good luck great cars... I was going to buy a 2002 S60 then I saw a V70 XC AWD I couldnt pass up...hiya mate ive got volvo s60 2oo1 in black put 18inch aftermaket alloys on it and tinted the windows, it looks smart as. like you say you've got the reliability and with a few simple mods you've got the sporty feel to it i wouldn't opt for the s80 tho there a bit to big and a bit for the older person

I'm not a big fan of front-wheel drive luxury cars, so I would opt for the S60 AWD if I were you. It's an excellent choice. I don't know if it is possible, but if there is a way to pair the AWD drivetrain with the turbodiesel engine, I think that would be a real winner.
If not, you might consider a BMW 530d if you are as much a fan of diesel power as I am.
Go with the Acura TL Type S. Better performance, VERY reliable(honda product) and a better warranty not to mention more features for your money. I used to own a Volvo S60 and I compared the S80/T to the TL before I decided. The Acura outperformed it on many levels and had a just as good if not better safety rating.I urge you to test drive one and compare.

If you are aiming for more bang for your buck, the S80t6 is going to offer you more gadgetry, a bigger motor, more power, more standard options, and lots of extra room.The advantages of the S60 are; easier to park, better gas mileage, more compact nature for city driving. The disatvantages of the s60 are the advantages of the S80; as I mentioned above.

If you are a performance "nut," I would try to find the S60R and compare that directly with the S80t6. You will find that the S60R has significantly better handling, acceleration, and braking. In fact, the 2002 S60R had better skid pad testing that many other European competitors in it's bracket.
