Question:
I just spent $3,600 on my Lincoln Aviator. The check engine light was coming on and they informed me I was losing compression in valve 4. They did a valve job to BOTH sides of the engine, as well as replaced the (2) timing belts! and (4) Cat. Converters! For one, why does the Aviator have double of these two items, two, what would cause it to have these problems..I was told Low Grade of fuel was used, but that wasnt the case, and three, why didnt Lincoln pay to have this fixed..as it was reported that Lincoln had a warning NOT A recall about this problem, pretty much saying, "we made a crappy engine, if this happens, we are sorry!" Also, after spending all this money, I get it back and it shifts realllly hard, and it is "sputering". I push the gas and it like hops along...and then finally kicks into gear and takes off.No rough idle anymore though, only sometimes...What seems to be the problem here?

Since the Aviator has only been around a few years (what, since 2004?), your truck isn't THAT old.
My 2001 Toyota Highlander sounds like it backfires when I start it and now it's using a ton of gas??
And the Aviator is nothing more than a gussied up Mercury Mountaineer and that is a Ford Explorer.

What size tires does a 1993 chevy cavaleir have?
chances are you're using "regular unleaded" gas - which runs about 87 octane. just about any car runs perfectly on that. even those high priced/high performance cars that say "Premium Recommended" (which is 91/92 octane) will work find in most of those high-end vehicles.

Check with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration - (the NHTSA) - as they handle recalls and Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) - those 'warnings' you may be talking about...
Can I install a double-din VW stereo in my 2001.5 VW Passat that came with a single-din?
As for the transmission problems.
Since you had a lot of work done and the transmission was disconnected from the motor - there may have been some fluid not put back in.
also, so many transmissions are electronically controlled now-a-days and, when they're disconnected from the electrical of the engine (the battery), they will lose their programming. So the transmission will revert back to the standard program and re-learn the way you drive. also, any (some, all?) of the electronic sensors COULD be dirty - and therefore sending bad signals to the computer - and causing some of your drive problems.

Best advice...? talk to Ford (Lincoln, Mercury) about the problems you're having.

also, some of the transmission valves could be stuck/glogged..
If you can afford an Aviator you should be able to afford the problems,so hush your mouth and deal with it.Also the Aviator is cool and reliable so take that somewhere else, you were probably were driving it like a mad man anyway so stop complaining.
How many gallons in a 1995 nissan pickup fuel tank?
this is exactly why they replaced it with the mkx. the mkx is more reliable, fuel efficient, more high tech, a higher performance engine, ect. and since ford already had the classier mountaineer for mercury, why make another classy explorer. plus it had the exact same engine as the navigator and the same chassis, and looked the same inside and out as the navigator. trade it in for the new mkx if you want better handling, performance, quality, gas economy, and style.AFTER MARKET STERIO for FORD MUSTANG 1966?
you had a couple of good answers already one is where you took it and second fight with the dealer over the cost and quality of the repairs. The engine or the vehicle is not at fault maybe you have a bad one it happens in ever brand of car. That engine is basically the same as the Lincoln Mark VIII and the Mercury Marauder and their has been a lot of those engines out there they are damn good motors. You don't say what your mileage is, you don't say if you bought this used and there for no way of knowing how the vehicle was driven or maintained. My guess is you didn't buy it new so you really don't know what fuel was used or how it was driven.Toyota Yaris Hood Emblem Stolen!!?
i like them its a smaller navagatorSounds like you picked up a "vacuum" issue at the dealer.
Heard that the Camaro is gonna be produced again, is this true?
it sounds to me that they took you for a ride i have never heard of a car under 4 years old to have bad valves or for that matter 8 years old unless someone before you did not seat them right or you tow a large boat or trailer often. and in that case you would not be complaining about that. ask for all the tests they did before and after and all they did to the motor because a valve job should be around 800 for parts 1200 for labor at most that's 2100 and i was putting the parts way up there you can get then for 350-450 at a parts store. and the labor 2100 / 65 an hour = 32 hours of laboryou can rebuild a whole engine in that time.well i can and i don't have a shop that's taking the parts to be milled and honed. and still do it in 13 hours. 6 hours a day.
also art those engine 3 valves per cylinder how can you tell which valve is number 4 or do you mean #4 valves. i think they had for two days reset the codes and gave it back to you. run it to a shop not a deal to check it. if they see any thing and i mean anything. get a print out. for the quote to fix it. and if your dealer will not repair every thing on the list bring up a suit or just mention one
71' Chevy Nova or 69' VW Beetle, which should I purchase?
