The 2.8 is defiantly a kick in the pants fast.However you will pay for it at the pumps.So it comes down to power vs cost. If you are going for the weekend crusier go the 2.8 if you are using it as a commuter too go the 1.8t.

I'd probably say the 2.8. I've driven the 1.8T and it is a dog in the lower RPM's. Not too bad when the turbo kicks in but until then it is just plain slow.

what do you want .. first find what you "need" and want then try to ask a better q.
imho i'd go for 1.8T bc i can double the power (more potential) and is more efficient (economic-gas milage perspective)
