The 2007 4-cyl. 2WD RAV4 gets about 24 city/30 highway, while the 4WD averages 23 city/27 highway. In my opinion that's not bad, but it isn't very good either. A major reason is the weight of the vehicle. The underpowered 4-cyl. struggles to move the car more than the V6 does. As a result it drinks more fuel than other 4-cyl. vehicles. I have a 2000 Infiniti I30, with a V6, which averages about 20 city/28 highway. That's not that bad for a V6 and its not too far from the 4-cyl. fuel consumption either. My point is, don't be afraid to buy a V6. You'll definitely benefit from the extra needed power and you'll only sacrifice a little bit in terms of fuel.
