yes, you'll lose your licence faster... youll use more petrol, and youll wera out components faster than would normally happen... and youll pay higher insurance premiums as youve modified the car... and if you dont tell them, and you have a prang, they wont pay up...A BMW comes from the factory turned pretty well for performance. An aftermarket chip won't help you very much. The air intake might give you 3 or 4 HP if you are lucky.

a forced air induction kit... such as a turbo or supercharger... YES... cold air intake.no.the performance chip will be a waste of money. bmws have highly tuned performance, and for the $300 you wont see much.
the most hp ive ever seen from a cold air intake (cai) was 16hp... you might notice it, you might not.
A forced induction kit, theres no doubt about it, youll feel the performance. but if you buy just the kit without installation fees.. youre looking at about $2000. (If you take the time to build a kit peice by peice, you can do it for ALOT less. i had a friend that turbod his civic si for under $300... it took him to years to find the deals on the parts, but it can be done).
here are the mods that i did to my car:
phenolic (sp?) intake spacers. They are about $60 and i got 13 hp with them.
throttle body spacer ($40) gave me 6hp
I had a custom cai made for $50= 13 hp
high flow cat + exhaust system-$300=12hp
port and polish intake (i did it myself)=3 hp
headers-$250=17hp
reflashed ecu-$240=4hp
and the best mod i did, engine swap-$500 (i sold the original engine for $500) and i got a whopping 40 hp.

Air induction kits would improve response at lower RPM and matted with and ECU, you are likely to get 17 - 22 hp. Performance chip that can be programmed are the best option (unichip) as it could be adjusted to meet your driving style. and could be programmed to deliver best performance...When did SVT Cobra Mustangs go to independent rear suspension?
Manufactures generally tune their vehicles for the general public. Most would be driving at about 2500 - 4200 rpm range. But i do know that if vehicle is sold in areas that require low end power (big cities) , manufactures set the cars for that purpose.
