Question:
Does anyone have any tips for getting better mileage from an 8.1 liter engine? I drive slow, use quality gas. Wondering if there is a computer chip or something.

Whats the diffrence of the cavailer Rs?
like with any engine, air flow. K&N air filter, larger exshaust. and if its a pick up, DO NOT put the tail gate down. you get better milage with it up, not much but it does make a difference in the long run. No matter what you do though its a big block and nothings really going to make a big difference. theres alot of contravesy over the k&n filter. exsesive oiling yes will cuase a problom, they require a little more maintenance( lack of will cause a problom) I've got 175 thuosand miles on my motor. change my oil regularly service my filter regularly and My motor does not burn any oil between changes in my chevy. and I'm sure thers people out there that run different or same products and are burning oil like mad maintenance<>mantenance!!If your driving an 8.1 I don't think fuel economy should cross your mind. They are built for power and towing and not to squeeze a nickel into six pennies.
you should have gotten the small block v8 if you didn't want to tow a lot and you were concerned about gas mileage. i don't know if i'd mess with intake and exhaust, (even though that would be SWEET on that big block...) i have a SB 350, and the exhaust on my truck and the K&N intake i have on it seems to make it get worse gas mileage. which makes sense if you think about it, when the mass air flow sensor senses more air coming in, it matches the added air with added fuel. also, when the oxygen sensor senses more exhaust coming out, it puts more fuel in. i would leave it alone and try to drive it easier.
Is the chevrolet aveo hatchback a good buy? does the sedan have any advantages over it?
Look! It's an 8.1 how much gas can you save, a lot if you trade it in for a 4 cylinder. You can maintain your car up to service by servicing your plugs, changing your air, fuel filters, and don't forget to check the tire pressure. There is some aftermarket chips that might help you go on line and shop around. Good Luck! FMZ28Are cadillac's not the best cars in terms of luxury?
You realize that an 8.1l engine is 502 cu in. Those are big holes to fill!. Your friend that says he's getting 18 MPG is full of S@@@. Depending on which axle ratio you have most likely 4.10 you get about 8-9 mpg. Doesn't matter if your pulling a 6 horse trailer or running empty still 8-9mpg. Computer chips don't change physics, and the people that designed that engine tried to get the best performance mileage combination possible. K&N filters are crap! The oil used to coat the mesh will just migrate on to the tiny little wires in the mass airflow sensor a ruin it. The microscopic dust that can go right thru the K&N will wear out your rings and cylinder and ruin your engine. I don't know why people but that junk for their $45,000 truck. Probably just want the cool sticker to stick on the rad support that says K&NMore Questions & Answers ...
