i am thinking about removing it off my 94 ranger.i have a k&n filter and a cherry bomb turbo exaust. i have herd it might increase proformance, and definatly makes it sound meaner...but i was wonder how bad it would hurt my gas millage. i get around 20 mpg now

Beside everyone telling you it is wrong.I'm sure you already know that...Check and see if there is an O2 sensor after your catalytic. If there is one don't bother on removing your catalytic because the computer will detect the difference and will show a code or try and adjust itself to run in the perameters already set in the computer. If there isn't one try it and see what kind of performance increase you get out of it.How much does a Peugeot 407 cost?
The lack of back pressure is gonna mess up your computer. I wouldn't do it, cause you're not gonna get that much more performance..maybe less.if you can still find it used to be called a test tube but now it is illeagle to do you can have a pipe made at a muffler shop (cheapest) or buy a hi-flow from just about any speed shop but save your old one you will need it again

your catalytic converter has nothing to do with gas milage! it merely converts poor engine operation into "harmless" co2 and such.. so dont fear engine operation.. fear the epaHow often do Mazda 626 transmission go out?

i own a repair shop,and i wouldn't worry too much about the back pressure on this one its minimal on this one any way,but it could decrease your mileage some,usually most cars are designed to run better with these than without them,so if your getting around 20 right now its a real gamble,it could either go up or down,it may affect your engine different depending on the mileage that's on it,good luck with it,hope this helps.,,thought id add this if you have an inspection law where you live the truck will fail it if you remove the converter.
if your cat is working proper,then taking it off wont make much difference,and also its illegal,besides you cant get it inspected without it.at least thats the way it is here in pa.

Second, a catalytic converter offers minimal flow restriction to a stock road engine. The only thing that will increase is noise.

Removing your cats is one, a Federal offense but what ever slight gain in performance you are never going to notice the difference. I would put money on bolt ons that will give you more power than this option. There are high flow cats you can get if this is a must, but come on, its now a race car and if you are worried about gas mileage doing performance parts then you are not going in the right direction you want to go. As in you putting your foot on the gas more to enjoy that new power?, if you say you will not, you are fooling yourself and wasting our time...What was the best year for trans am?
It's illegal. It won't improve your performance. It may make your truck sound a bit louder, but it's also going to smell like rotten eggs. Not a good trade off in my book.More Questions & Answers ...
