Question:
I have a 2000 V6 mustang and i am going to switch the differential to a 7.5" Traction lock (or limited slip) and was wondering if i could use the existing gears i have right now, in the new differential before i upgrade to 3.55 or 3.73. the stock differential is a 7.5" also but was wondering if someone that knows about this could tell me and if they could tell me anything else i would need before i do the swap (which a mechanic will do). i was thinking about getting either the ford racing differential from rpmoutlet.com or the differential for my car at gefracing.com.
How big is the G35 Coupe Trunk?
Thanks, V6 owner.

Do any car companies make a hybrid Wagon or Minivan?
If I understand correctly, you want to make eventual upgrades on your vehicles in stages. In answer to your question, regarding the switch to a Traction-Loc differential, while using your existing crown and pinion, the answer is yes. The 7.5" differential is used on many other Ford products (Aerostars, Rangers, etc.), so many different ratios are widely available. As, you are probably already aware, changing the gears will require setting the ring gear backlash, pinion bearing preload, and checking/setting ring to pinion gear contact pattern. Failure to have these measurements set properly will result in premature bearing and gear noise/failure. As far as sourcing out the parts from Ford Racing or RPM outlet is concerned, yes it would be wise to shop around. Just make sure you have all the parts you need before the changeover. Bear in mind, you will need to reprogram the PCM parameters, if/when you change the ratio in order to maintain correct speedometer reading, ABS operation, transmission shift scheduling etc. Hope this helps. Why does my 2.3 engine have 8 spark plugs?
no V8 power but yes you can use the same gearsYes you can reuse the gears, Just make sure that they are set up like they are now as far as backlash and where they ride together or they may be noisy.
