Question:
hey guys and gals, I'am planning on purchasing a 2002-2003 chevy silverado with the duramax. How many miles (under ideal circumstances) it is possible to put on this drivetrain, assuming it is well maintained?? My reason for asking is for the amount of money I want to spend I'am looking at about 80,000 miles already on it and just curious if I can put a lot more on without worrying about having major issues with the drivetrain.

well being thats its a diesel - it can last a long time. usually near 200k easily if taken car of. but really it depends on how it was driven by the prior owner and how you are going to drive it. if they drove the carp out of it and towed to heavy loads its not going to last as long as one that was babied.\why does a 1996 Toyota RAV4 burn so much fuel and the engine does not 'race'?

typically The average mileage per year would be 14000-16000.... however When I was working as a service tech for GM, i serviced a Duramax that was used to haul horses and bails of straw, he would put on 3-5 k a week, when I left the service dept he had over 260,000 miles... with very few problems, He owned a 98 diesel before and swears by the Duramax, I would look into what the truck was used for and ask for a full service history of the repairs!Mustang 1973 Power Steering fluid?
they say that a true diesel is not broken in for 100,000 miles. the duramax is a well built engine and will last for far far beyond 200,000. if you can pick one up with only 80,000 for a good deal you should jump all over it.How do I change spark plugs in 2000 Ford Taurus?

80,000 is nothing, I have had cars with upto 300K and no problems with the trans. Just make sure to change the trans oil and filter every 30K -50K and always change your engine oil every 3K miles.some people answered your question w/o knowing your question(they don't know the difference between gas and diesel). the others that answered it knowing what a duramax is have it dead on. a typical diesel will last around 500,000 mi., regular service intervals for the engine or farther between also. if it's got the allison transmission it'll be even better. you did not specify what you will be using it for?
