Question:
I Just got a new engine in our 1998 Chevy Venture Van because, we were driving the van..and it wouldn't speed up and the engine started rattling real bad shaking. We have been driving it for about 2 months now and the van has been making a thud noise when you give it some gas after you stop. Today the engine smoked alittle, then started shaking like it did before the new engine...but not quite as bad we made it home with out any problems...but I know its getting ready to die again.. The check engine light did just come on today and the reading said there was to much gas flow to the combustion I don't know what could cause that...any idea's what this could be? I'm going to make a appointment for the van on monday.

My last question said that the oil pressure goes from 40-60. It actually falls between 20-60.?
The engines in these had a design defect. Many were replaced under warranty, but you may want to do some research to see if you just got another defective engine. GEEZ, this could go on forever.are buick lesabres good cars? are buicks good cars period?
ok..to start with..Pauls answer is WRONG!! as a GM service manager i can give you my word there were no free replacement engines!!(outside of the standard 3/36 warranty from gm)..the 2 big concerns in these engines were the intake manifold gaskets and a tic type noise on start up that does go away. as for you concern..if the light came on it couls very well be a missfire problem..is the engine running ok?..do you know if the engine that was installed used your old injectors, plug wires or coils?has the repair facility done an exhaust back presure check to make sure catalyst is not clogged?..(most common after an engine with an intake gasket withan extremely bad leak has been replaced)what is the specific code that you were told the problem was?..if the light (check engine/service engine soon) is flashing..shut the van off..it could be dumping raw fuel in engine and passing into exhaust causing catalyst problem..i have one of these vans with 170,000 miles and it stills runs great..granted i have changed the intake gaskets twice, and trust me if i could of gotten gm to pay for them they would of!but they dont.get me more info and ill try to help. good luck chriscan i put 20inch rims on my e46 m3?
First of all, who's back yard was used to do this job? it sounds like your engine was not installed properly, either some torque converter bolts were not tightened and your flywheel is loose and rattling around, see if there is any transmission fluid leaking from underneath, if not ,have your motor mounts checked to see if they are worn out, also see if you have any warranties from your mechanic, that way you won't hav to pay any additional labor charges to have it fixed, if not, use another qualified honest mechanic to help you, I think you were ripped off and you need to take it to court.More Questions & Answers ...
