There should be FIVE numbers ONLY, that stamped on the decal.Take it to a ford dealer and they will program it for you with the numbers you want to use.

what is that long black brace ,from the tranny to the rear end? do you have to have it attached?
Are you talking about the number pad on the drivers door that allows you to open the vehicle without the key? If so then there is a white box that you are looking for that has the 5 number code on it. I know in the F150's it was under the pass dash, expeditions it was in the rear. I am thinking it is in the trunk in a taurus. Pull back the trim on the right or left side of the trunk and see if you can find it. The trim panel should not have to be removed, just flexed to see it. When you find the number, enter it, then hit the 1-2 key, then enter the 5 number code of your choice. If the door locks cycle then it worked and your personalized code should work. If you enter the code it will unlock just the drivers door, if you hit the 3-4 key after entering your code(regardless of what your code is) it will open ALL of the doors. Note: if you disconnect the battery, the vehicle will go back to the default code
